The Jack Webb classic "Dragnet" premiered on the radio, the Rolling Stones made their North American TV debut, and Michael Jackson encountered health problems. Breathing their last on this date was Sid Caesar's first TV series, actors James Arness and David Carradine, Rue McLanahan of "The Golden Girls, and bandleader Ozzie Nelson, who gained most of his fame in "The Adventures of Ozzie & Harriet."
