Born this date were actors George Hamilton, Peter Krause, Casey Affleck and Bruce Greenwood, along with country singers Buck Owens and Porter Wagoner. Camosun College's CKMO-FM increased its power, Cousin Brucie did his last show on New York's KNBC, Red Skelton debuted nationally on Rudy Vallee's NBC radio show, and Elvis was granted copassionate leave from the US Army to be with his dying mother. Also dying this date were Loretta Young, Merv Griffin, sportscaster Ernie Johnson Sr., and Japanese one-hit-wonder Kyu Sakamoto. ALL the milestones for Aug. 12th INSIDE.

“Game of Thrones” actor J.J. Murphy has died four days after shooting his first scenes for season five of the HBO series. He was 86. The Northern Ireland native collapsed and died on Friday, Aug. 8.

Lisa Marie Presley married Nicholas Cage (Nick filed for divorce 4 months later), Manhattan Transfer debuted a summer variety series on CBS-TV, Candid Camera began its run on ABC, Alan Sherman released his novelty smash, 'Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh,' and Paul and Linda McCartney were arrested for drug possession in Sweden. John Barton Remembered Saturday at Qualicum Beach

A longtime CHEK TV personality was remembered today (Saturday) by his family and friends in Qualicum Beach. Talk show host John Barton, of “Barton & Company” was a big face in Victoria through the 70′s and early 1980′s…but his legacy maybe more about the life he lived off camera than on.
