The backlash against free began last year, when arguably the biggest recording artist on the planet, Taylor Swift, pulled all of her music from Spotify. In the past couple of weeks, Swift’s stance has gained backing from the world’s two biggest record companies, Universal and Sony, who together account for more than half of the recorded music market, and seem determined to clamp down on free listening.

With over 2,000 radio stations broadcasting in HD in the U.S., and another 1,500 digital-only stations, HD is gaining dominance in-dash.

CNN estimates that at its peak, each edition of his network program, “Larry King Live,” reached 1 billion people in 212 countries. By comparison, Ora TV’s “Larry King Now” attracts just 8 million viewers each month.

"All broadcasting channels are going to be under pressure. Some will disappear and some won't and that will really be determined by consumer choice," said Michael Hennessy, noting that's not entirely a bad thing.
