They did it right on Election Night! A number of stations heavily promo’ed their coverage of Saturday’s municipal election, but only CTV Vancouver delivered.
Whenever I checked BC1 or Global they were offering results I’d already seen on CTV. The banner along the bottom of the screen was breaking results in a timely manner .. and they had reporters checking in frequently from the various Metro Vancouver headquarters with timely reaction to the available numbers.
As a Saanich/Victoria resident I was delighted to get first word of the ouster of our incumbent mayor from CTV Vancouver. They did a full screen visual on the election of Fred Haynes, which was as much as could be hoped for from a Lower Mainland-serving station. It was nearly 10 minutes later when local Victoria outlets (CHEK, C-FAX) caught up.
While this is far from a scientific survey, PSR sends best wishes to the BC broadcast outlet we feel best delivered on Municipal Election night .. CTV Vancouver.
Mr Robinson your dead right. I tried to tune in global and NW but I kept coming back to CTV. They were impressive. I felt bad for Diane Watts having to watch her old party get annihilated live and in person.
Kudos to CTV. Being able to read the graphics on a full screen was much better. Global/BC1 with the box around the screen made it very difficult to read the graphics, they were so small. Graphics looked better at 10 pm when the main Global came on but still continued to flip back to CTV. Mi-Jung and Scott GREAT JOB for the first as the main anchors.
I tuned in first to Global because of the top anchors leading the way. But that “box” around the entire screen was too much. Small print on the line below the anchors was hard to read. They should have left it to CTV, because they did an A-1 job.
Former JRfm fill in guy (Gary Tymoschuk AKA Gary Thomas on air) e-mailed PSR to tell us he’d been re-elected to Surrey School Board for a second term. Congrats! Thank you for your service!
Kudos to CTV. Terrific job. Solid analysis, terrific set, excellent graphics. A pleasure to watch.
Yes, I agree with Ron Robinson, CTV Vancouver’s coverage was superior. I watch television over the air. I was waiting for Global’s coverage to begin, but it did not begin until well after the polls had closed. CTV’s coverage began well before the polls closed and it was commercial free. The panel consisting of George Affleck and Dianne Watts was excellent.
Agree with previous excellent posts…gonna roll over to CTV @ 6 for a test drive.
Great news on Helps…byebye…I’ve got a statue for you!
Ooooops!
Mayor Helps is still mayor….that’s why I wear a bag over my head…
Totally agree with previous comments re CTV far better than Global
CTV kept it simple, not cluttered with Latest results not like Global which had small updates AND News Headlines !!! appearing on a small box screen {BC1}
The “Cabinet room” photo update was a bust with poor images of winning council members
Global You blew it !!
PS Where is Lynn Collier ? Is She on extended vacation or??
