The network’s president will be taking a six-week leave.

In a surprise announcement, CNN president Jeff Zucker informed network staffers on Thursday morning that he’s taking leave for six weeks to undergo heart surgery to address a heart condition he has had for 10 years.

CNN’s Brian Stelter broke the news on Twitter. “He assured everyone he is going to be just fine,” Stelter wrote. “All of us are wishing him a very speedy recovery.”

The network did not release a statement on Zucker’s planned absence. A source close to the network said that programming evp Michael Bass will run editorial and Zucker’s management team will “pick up the rest.”

Zucker has a long history of medical conditions, including colon cancer and Bell’s Palsy, which he was diagnosed with a few years ago. He’s also had multiple surgeries on his knees.

It was recently revealed that Zucker has renewed his contract to remain with the network through 2020, though it’s unclear when the extension was signed or what the terms of the deal are.
