If you don’t think pot is mainstream, think again: The Tragically Hip has recently announced that it, too, has invested in a piece of the marijuana pie.
In a move that will make its band members investors and active stakeholders in the company, the Hip has partnered with Newstrike Resources Ltd., a Brantford, Ontario-based licensed producer.
As of June 1, the company will trade publicly on the TSX-V under the symbol “HIP”.
A press release from the company called the band members “significant” investors.
“…After much discussion and assessment on our part, we’ve decided that this company—and the many creative people in it—are a perfect fit for The Hip,” reads a statement from the band.
“Medicinal cannabis is legal in Canada, and it already greatly benefits the health and well being of many of our fellow Canadians.” It goes on to laud the federal government and it’s plans for the legalization of recreational cannabis, before praising Newstrike for hiring “preeminent scientists and growers”.
Newstrike is one of 45 licensed producers in Canada, and one of 26 in Ontario.
