Rafe Mair weighs in on Brexit and Ian Jessop’s firing on the Goddard Report

I’ve always been a fan of Rafe, even though I didn’t always agree with him. But he was an unapologetic and independent thinker. Debunking BS, placing political feet to the fire, shining lights on things the hoi poloi might not have noticed, and tilting at any number of windmills.
But as an admirer, I HOPE I offend no one when I say that remembering the volatile, forceful and journalisticaly combative political commentator I remember, I was a little taken aback by the frailty in his erstwhile stentorian voice.
I wonder if I am the only one.
But tempus fugits, of course, and I ain’t the person I was in the old days either.

I always admired Rafe’s diligence in writing an opening editorial for almost every show. And I especially appreciated how, every so often, those openers became eulogies for memorable folk who’d crossed his and listeners’ paths over the years.

Other than Jon McComb– who’s talent is wasted on the early am shift–can’t think of any host who’s come close to matching the excellence of Rafe and his predecessor Jack Webster.
