95.3 The PEAK Launched as
Calgary’s Newest Radio Station

(Calgary, AB) – This morning the Jim Pattison Broadcast Group launched Calgary’s newest radio station, CHPK-FM, to be known as 95.3 The PEAK, proudly positioning the music it plays as World Class Rock.

This new signal at 95.3 FM will be a music intensive Adult Album Alternative (AAA) format targeting female listeners from 25 to 49 years of age. The station will have a primary focus on new and emerging artists and a secondary focus on alternative music from the last decade (2000-2010). Local artists such as Sidney York, The Dudes, Michael Bernard Fitzgerald and Port Juvee will receive airplay, along with artists Said the Whale, Zerbin, Current Swell and Dear Rouge.

Rick Arnish, Chairman of the Jim Pattison Broadcast Group said “The Jim Pattison Broadcast Group doesn’t take for granted the issuance of new licences. We’re committed to contributing to the growth of this world class city with the launch of our world class rock station, a format that is highly desired in Calgary”.

“We are appreciative of the hundreds of musicians and businesses throughout Alberta, as well as listeners who supported our application to enter Calgary. Pattison Broadcasting has been eager to enter the Calgary market for some time and our entire company is thrilled that day has finally come” says Rod Schween, President of the Jim Pattison Broadcast Group.

As part of this application, the Jim Pattison Broadcast Group has committed $8.75 million over 7 years to the promotion and development of Canadian Content (CCD), all of which will benefit emerging Canadian artists. Those initiatives include $4.9 million for the Alberta PEAK Performance Project supported by the Alberta Music Industry Association.

Eric Stafford, General Manager of 95.3 The PEAK states “The Alberta Peak Performance Project is an opportunity for exponential growth for the music industry in Alberta. There was a huge untapped market that we were unable to service before as we were just based in British Columbia. The station and Peak Performance Project couldn’t be more excited to tap into the diversity of local talent in Alberta!”

Program Director, Kath Thompson added, “It was crucial for us to launch a station that reflected Calgary in its music, announcers and marketing. We created this station for Calgarians and look forward to keeping the station fun and interactive”.

The station will broadcast from newly built shared studios at 600, 222 58th Avenue SW with its sister station, 101.5 KooL FM (CKCE-FM), a station the Jim Pattison Broadcast Group recently purchased from Bell Media.

95.3 The PEAK – World Class Rock is a proud member of the Jim Pattison Broadcast Group, a market leader in radio in Western Canada with 33 FM radio stations, as well as 3 independent television stations in the provinces of BC, Alberta and Manitoba.
