Goodbye Tammy
VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – It is with the heaviest of hearts that we let you know that our colleague, friend, and family member Tammy Moyer has passed away.
Tammy’s broadcast career spanned two decades and the entire country. She joined NEWS 1130 in 2002 after stints in radio in both Vancouver and Victoria. Wanderlust took her away to Montreal in 2007, but she was back at home at NEWS 1130 in 2010 as an on-air host during PM Drive. Her warm demeanor and her ability to connect with the listener soon had her hosting the Morning Show.
At work, Tammy was a leader and a mentor, championing human interest stories that impacted the heart, and working with younger journalists who wanted to emulate her style. In the community she was a tireless supporter of charitable endeavors and women’s issues, and rarely said “no” to anything, even if it meant heading out after waking up at 2:30am, working the morning shift at the station, then hosting an event well into the evening.
Tammy has worked with the Courage To Come Back Awards, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, the BC Lung Association, Variety, Women of Worth, Women of Influence and many others.
At home, Tammy was a daughter, a sister, an aunt, and most importantly a mother – her son Emelyan was the light of her life, and it was him she was thinking about the most in the last few days and weeks as she battled her illness.
The sun may set every evening, but we know it glows into the night, and it’s why we can see the moon. The dazzling light of a spirit like Tammy’s may have dimmed, but as long as that light continues to glow in the hearts of the many, many lives she touched, it will never go out.
We miss you, Tammy, and we love you. Rest well.
When someone works in the news business dies way too soon, it’s a sad day. Our condolences to the family of Tammy Moyer.
What is troubling is the sheer number of these tragedies at news1130 alone. Bruce Williams, Brian Brenn, and now Tammy.
Is there something about the radio news business that is toxic, that is virtually killing people !
If so, what ? Is it the stress. the lack of humanity, the sheer meanness of people, or all three ?
God Bless Tammy’s son. No child should lose their mom at such a young age.
My heart breaks to hear this terrible news. I lost my sister one year ago at the tender age of 49 to pancreatic cancer also. My thoughts and prayers are with her son and all that knew and loved Tammy so passionately. She is now free from pain and suffering . ??
I always listened to Tammy, on news 1130. Her voice always woke me up in the morning. She was a wonderful lady and loved her stories, and a very happy lady. Rip Tammy.
I was so sad to hear of Tammy’s passing. I have been listening to Tammy and the News 1130 crew for years now. She had such a wonderful sense of humor and an amazing laugh. I loved the banter between her and Kim. I looked forward to it every day. She will be sorely missed.
My heart goes out to her family
Very sad to hear this news. Rest in peace. I lost a colleague of 15 years and good friend last year to pancreatic cancer, it’s a tough thing to go through, very sad as she was so young.
I lost my mom and also a close friend to pancreatic cancer. It is one of the deadliest and fastest moving of all cancers. Please specifically donate to pancreatic research and find a treatment to attack this particular type of carcinoma.
Loved her voice…RIP Tammy!
