NTS MediaOnline Today sends out a north-of-the-border salute to one of Canada’s most respected broadcasters, John Hinnen, on being chosen to receive the 2014 Ontario Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame Award. Hinnen, who has been a part of Canada’s broadcast community for over four decades, recently retired after a long career at the helm of Toronto’s 680News (CFTR) and as Vice President of News for Rogers Media Television and Radio. He first joined Rogers in 1974 as a sportscaster at what was then music radio CFTR. He went on lead the team that transformed AM 680 into Canada’s first all-news radio station in 1993. ”For me, 680News has been just one incredible ride,” said the veteran broadcast exec. “As the person who programmed the station from day one, and to see it rise to the number one station in Canada, has been nothing but a dream come true.” Hinnen will be honored with a reception and awards dinner at the OAB’s annual conference, to be held on October 30th in Toronto. Friends and colleagues from both sides of the border can congratulate John on his well-deserved honor by leaving your comments below.
