Despite numerous attempts at gaining statements and clarification from CBS Radio executives and spokespeople, the company is staying extremely tight-lipped about what occurred on Monday. CBS Radio began a nationwide lay-off of staffers. According to insiders, the total number of CBS Radio employees released on Monday (plus a handful from earlier this month), is around 200.
The majority of those released appear to be off-air positions, hitting sales and promotions departments, as well as some producers. While no numbers are yet confirmed, New York seemed to have been hit the hardest with at least 25 employees released, largely from the CBS Radio sales teams. Thirteen staffers are supposedly out in Detroit. Ten were said to be released in Chicago. In St. Louis at least five lost their jobs (including one on-air host, KEZK morning personality Vic Porcelli), with some saying the number was much higher.
