Thanks to Broadcast Dialogue for alerting us to a new Calgary AM station, CJLI, which finally began Christian talk programming this past Monday.
AM700 The Light Calgary, with a 50,000- watt daytime signal and owned by Touch Canada Broadcasting, launched June 29, six years after receiving CRTC approval. At 7:00 that morning, a produced piece was aired that talked about the long process, the search for a transmitter site, the station’s background and its vision.
The new Christian Talk station is twinned with Christian Music sister station 88.9 Shine FM Calgary…
CJLI reduces power to 20,000 watts at night, with additional restrictions to protect Class A clear-channel stations WLW in Cincinnati, Ohio and KBYR in Anchorage, Alaska.
I can’t remember the last NEW 50,000 watt AM signal anywhere in Canada. Somehow I thought this news deserved a little more attention.
Wow! A new 50,000 Watt AM radio station, and I’ve always been under the impression because of the cost factor of fm compared to am, am transmitting far exceeds an fm transmitter? Can some techie type please weigh in. Time to do some DX’ing to see how far the signal carries at night/early morning hours.
