Last Thanksgiving, Bob Rivers ascended Diamond Head Summit Trail’s 560 feet of elevation gain, cane in hand and his heart rate carefully monitored. At 68 and in the late stages of his terminal cancer diagnosis, Rivers was determined to reach the summit.
Hiking was always one of his favorite hobbies and something he often did after finishing his morning radio show.
“I don’t know if it was a miracle, or just me putting some effort in — or what’s holding me back, or whether I’m holding me back,” Rivers said. “Until you try something, you won’t know if you can do it.”
