I can’t listen to the Ben Mulroney show. Man is this show crap. It’s all fluff and man does he sound entitled. He said on his show the other day he flew to Ottawa for a dinner meeting and then found out that there was no flight back home to Toronto, so he booked a “towncar” (Lincoln) to drive back home. Sad where radio is heading but if people and Corus call this radio the industry is destined to fail. Sad! We need in Alberta a new “Rutherford”. At least he talked about Alberta. There is a guy out of Toronto on a low powered AM station that does amazing talk that should be on the national airwaves. Marc Patorne at Sauga 960 does an amazing job. Anyhow just my thoughts.
So much for local radio.

The above is an amazing talk station in Montreal. They have no name they just go by their frequency 98.5 (Brilliant). Anyhow, I know they are French and you won’t understand it but they are amazing both production and content. They are number 1 in Quebec and I think they are probably close to number 1 in Canada as far as hours tuned etc. We really need a station like this in AlBerta (Edmonton) Corus is a joke. I worked at an amazing talk station here in Edmonton in the 90’s (CJCA). I miss those days.

“man does he sound entitled.” I guess it comes naturally after being raised the way he was. His mom didn’t suffer or want for anything either. However, that upbringing didn’t give him the journalistic capabilities that he SHOULD have had for that TV gig as well. That said, it also applies to most of the up-and-coming broadcasters these days. Start small, grow big!
That show fits right in with the rest of the lightweights at NW…so-called talk show hosts AND newsreaders.
His program is an absolute waste of airtime, but that seems what the airheads in the east want these days, Terry Bell is so sensible in his comments. Nothing worth listening to on NW after 6:00 pm and on the weekends a lot of reruns including day old TV newscasts. Nobody in management gets it
It’s not all bad. Mike Smyth and Jill Bennett are good. Some up and coming newsreaders too. Miss you, Terry. Enjoyed hearing you and (the late) Mike Cleaver on overnights/early mornings.
Alex, you got it. Nobody in management gets it, nobody in management CARES. They know it’s all but over. Corus is dead in the ditch staving off bankruptcy and scurrying to find a buyer. Trading today at 10 cents a share.
I stopped listening to NW when the commercials started to delay the start of the newscasts. It is somewhat surprising that the station has been able to stay at the top of the Numeris ratings. No doubt people still listen to the station because of its talk programming (excluding the Ben Mulroney program).
