Legendary news broadcaster comes out of retirement to launch his new
podcast series – “The Tony Parsons Show”
.
(November 6, 2024 – Kelowna, BC) Tony Parsons has stepped out of retirement and into his new studio in Kelowna, BC to launch a timely and important podcast. Focusing on the leaders and storytellers who have shaped our world, Tony explores their own personal stories as well as how the information landscape is evolving, with important insights and warnings from the likes of Peter Mansbridge, Dr. David Suzuki and Sandie Rinaldo.

As a journalist for the past 50 years, Parsons anchored the second most-watched local television newscast in North America, the News Hour on Global BC, in Canada. During his distinguished career, Tony reported on some of the world’s most notable news events that have shaped our nation. He has interviewed Prime Ministers, Premiers, entertainers, thought leaders and other people of distinction from around the world.
As Parsons states on the show’s trailer; “my goal with this interview series is to help you, my audience discover the person behind the credentials, while at the same time, I’ll invite them to share their professional insights, experiences and aspirations.” The style of the show is based on the TV and radio talk-show format that many of us came to love as they kept us intrigued, laughing, crying and feeling a connection with the host and his guests.
The first season of The Tony Parsons Show was released on October 26, 2024 across all major podcast platforms including Apple, Spotify, YouTube, Amazon Music and Deezer. As a twist for the episode and as a benefit for his fans, former Weatherman, Wayne Cox turns the tables and serves as the guest-host. Cox interviews Tony to reveals much about his early life in Ontario and how his resonating voice led to start as a radio DJ and a career in Broadcast Journalism.

.
Parson’s esteemed guests include fellow broadcasters: Peter Mansbridge, former news anchor for CBC’s’ The National’ and CTV News anchor Sandie Rinaldo. Mansbridge shares stories of his early life and how his discovery, while announcing flights in a small airport in Churchill Manitoba led to a career in journalism. Mansbridge speaks frankly about the viability of the publicly funded CBC and the concerning loss of public trust in the news media due to misinformation.

.
Rinaldo takes us on an emotional journey to the country of Poland to trace the footsteps of her parents as holocaust survivors. She also reveals her struggles with breast cancer and the tragic loss of her husband Michael Rinaldo to cancer, in 2005. As well, listeners will be riveted as Tony takes guest Dr. David Suzuki back in time to his boyhood years in Marpole, near Vancouver, BC. Dr. Suzuki describes the dramatic upheaval his Japanese-Canadian family experienced in 1942 when they were ordered into an internment camp in Slocan Valley, BC and how that woodland environment led to his passion for nature and a career as an environmental activist.

.
Other notable guests include; former Executive Producer, Global National News, Leslie Stojsic, Announcer and voice of Hockey Night in Canada, Jim Hughson, and epidemiologist and provincial health officer of BC, Dr. Bonnie Henry. Tony Parson fans will also enjoy a lively ‘reunion show’ with his former colleagues from the BCTV Global News Hour, News Broadcaster, Pamela Martin, Meteorologist, Wayne Cox and News Director, Cameron Bell.

  1. Wish Mr. Parsons luck, but I’m not sure there’s a big enough market for these interviews to attract sponsors. Worth a shot I guess.

  2. Now THERE was a newsman. Professional. Impeccable with the English language. Nothing like today’s crop. I’m a little concerned with the potential for leftys creating some influence when I saw the Suzuki reference, but I’ll reserve judgement on that.

  3. I’d be curious if any taxpayer money is involved. Anyone giving oxygen to Bonnie Henry means I’m out. I’ve heard enough from her to last several lifetimes.

  4. Marpole is IN Vancouver. It’s a neighbourhood.
Wayne Cox is not a Meteorologist. He was what is now known as a Weather Specialist, just like Steph Florian is these days on Global BC.
