Former Vancouver broadcaster and executive Bill Hughes has died at age 96. He hosted over 15,000 episodes of Roving Mike on CKNW from 1950-94 and was GM & then President from 1965-77. The family is not planning an immediate ceremony but may have a celebration in the spring.

Just a legend and gentlemen. I always found that segment so fun and interesting as he poked and prodded visitors to BC heading off on their Grey Line bus tour to Victoria.
Then there was Joy’s Journal, with Joy Metcalf who got skewered every morning by Frosty while she was trying to share the gossip and gala-gala-do’s of Vancouver.
Icon. NW was never better in those days, or at least until Frosty retired in 2005.
I remember him more with the Roving Mike via the New Westminster Greyhound station.🎤
A bus driver’s best friend, just a great person. Another legend from the “Top Dog” days of CKNW, I sure miss those days. RIP
Tom Terrific could not have said it better! The station is no longer “Top Dog.” It has now gone to the dogs.
Bill Hughes was one of the legendary people who made CKNW “must listening.” His broadcasts were very well-known, but his talent as a manager and executive were also crucial in CKNW enjoying so much success during his years there. He enjoyed a long and active life, and will be long-remembered.
