Off topic perhaps, but we all need electricity! So with that in mind, why is it the mainstream local media have been noticably absent in reporting about the over 20 documented fires being caused by the smart meters which have been installed in British Columbia homes.
You may recall Premier Brad Wall of Saskatchewan recently ordered the removal of the Smart Meters in his province because of 8 reported fires. When BC Hydro was questioned about issues with smart meters in Saskatchewan, the immediate response was our BC smart meters were  a different brand and company, suggesting the BC meters are safe.

NOT TRUE!

Upon investigation it turns out our BC smart meters are more dangerous because these units are made of combustible Plastic, as well include Lithium batteries. A bad combination, especially on a hot summer day.

Kudos to  CKNW‘s Drex for addressing this issue by talking with Sharon Noble, director of the ‘Coalition to Stop Smart Meters’. The interview is most revealing and with a promise by the host to follow it up with BC Hydro this week.

This Story Should be followed up by you newshounds…

  1. Incredible story. Having just read the article Dolly linked to, and the BC Hydro spokesman made this comment, and I quote “”It’s a bit disingenuous (for Meszaros) to say ‘I’m surprised Hydro did that,'” Olynyk said. “You can’t just go buy a meter — it has to be approved by Measurement Canada.” [endQuote
After hearing the interview with Sharon Noble on the Drex show, she claims none of the smart meters operating in Canada have been approved!!!

  3. It’s a good thing Gordon Campbell got removed from office for this and the HST blunder!!!

Oh wait, he got appointed the High Commissioner in London. Got a nice fat salary and a unlimited bill to wine and dine bureaucrats and diplomats. Maybe crime does pay…

  4. And Sharon Noble didn’t even mention the fact that people who are resisting smartmeters are being charged an extra $32.40 a month (the highest such extortion fee in North America) in order to keep our Analog meters. There’s also a $65 Failed Installation fee if BC Hydro comes around to replace your old meter and you send them away.

  5. I appreciate that Sharon has been working on this for two years but when she says she is the only one doing anything about this is very untrue as Lori Geisbricht has been actively researching and working on Smart Meters for over 3 years.
Should you wish to hear even more about the dangers including the health dangers of Smart Meters
contact either Lori Geisbricht and Georgia Love on the 4th Dimension Show next week on Dec 19th at http://www.pyramidonenetwork.com phone in 1-843-300-1399 to have your questions answered

  6. I live in Lake Cowichan and have received, over the past two months, at least 4 phone calls, several letters and emails advising me to pay my “outstanding” balance or have my power cut off within 24 h. Two of the phone calls from BC Hydro were “anonymous”. I had to use a reverse look up to learn who they were from. I made a transcript of the calls, each coming around 6:30 pm in the evening. So far I still have my power. If Mr. Bennett allows BC Hydro to cut off my power I will personally go to his home in the Interior and stand in front of it with my “Thank YOU Sign” on Christmas Day. This is so pathetic!

I have paid for every kilowatt hour of electricity consumed. I do my own readings, at least every 3 days, and always pay and send in my calculations. I used to teach this to my Gr 10 science classes.

I refuse to pay the so-called Meter Legacy Charge, $32.40 or otherwise. How is it that Quebecers only pay $5? That is nearly $65 to have one reading made and inputed to a computer to do the rest. Clearly this is extortion and a punitive measure from Mr. Bennett.

I hope the Insurance Industry catches on soon. They will certainly make this whole issue much more complicated for BC Hydro.

And, very sadly, Andrew Weaver, who should no better, thinks that we are protected by the “inverse square law” from the chronic danger of the EMR. Obviously he does not want to lose his toys any more than most people. WiFi will be the next second hand smoke issue for workers.
Read the research by Dr. Henry Lai on the breaking of DNA bonds by non-ionizing low dose radiation.

  7. Thanks so much for covering this story. Main line media have their hands tied due to being owned, for the most part, by telecommunication companies. True investigative reporting can only happen if the journalist’s are allowed to be independent. There is a lot of money at stake here but we can’t ignore the health and safety issues. You are doing us all a great favour by bringing this situation to the light of day…..

DESPERATE CORPORATIONS AND DESPERATE GOVERNMENTS ARE NOT A PRETTY SIGHT!
BC Hydro, you are no longer interested in the energy provision business, You are now trying to shift into the data extraction business… MINE, and it’s NEVER gonna happen!!
THE CORE and “COR” ISSUES INVOLVED HERE ARE FREEDOM AND PROPERTY RIGHTS.

  9. These 20 documented “fires” come from Sharon Noble, the director of the Coalition to Stop Smart Meters. The “combustible Plastic” is actually polycarbonate that has an ignition point of 580C (1076F), not what I would classify as combustible. This is the incident report of a Prince George fire Sharon Noble blames on smart meters. Nowhere in the entire report is a smart meter mentioned. How can any rational person blame this on a smart meter? ” FULLY INVOLVED 3 STOREY HOUSE WITH HEAVY SMOKE AND FLAMES SHOWING FROM THE 2ND FLOOR/ROOF OF
CHARLIE/DELTA. CREWS FOUND THE ENTIRE CHARLIE SIDE (ALL 3 FLOORS) INVOLVED IN FIRE WITH THE SIDING
ALREADY BURNED OFF A LARGE PORTION OF THE HOUSE. CONFIRMED THIS WAS A DEFENSIVE OPERATION AND
ORDERED 2 1/2′ LINE TO BE USED ALPHA SIDE TRYING TO SLOW FIRE SPREAD TO ALPHA. APPROXIMATELY 10
MINUTES IN, THE OVERHEAD GARAGE DOOR OPENED SPONTANEOUSLY AND 2 DOGS RAN OUT OF THE GARAGE.
NEIGHBOR PROVIDED A WRITTEN STATEMENT STATING THAT HE HEARD A TREE FALL AT APPROXIMATELY 0830
HOURS AND WHEN HE NOTICED IT FELL ON HIS NEIGHBORS POWER LINE HE CALLED BC HYDRO AT
APPROXIMATELY 0835 HOURS. HE LEFT THE NEIGHBORHOOD FOR WORK AT APPROXIMATELY 0845 HOURS AND DID
NOT SEE ANY SMOKE.” The entire report can be found here : http://www.stopsmartmetersbc.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/BCFC-Fire-Prince-George-2014-02-23.pdf
This Port Alberni “fire” that Sharon Noble blames on a smart meter occurred when the installer removed the analog meter and before the smart meter was installed. Again how can she blame this on smart meters? ” PORT ALBERNI FIRE DEPARTMENT RESPONDED TO A REPORT OF HYDRO TRANSFORMER FAILURE IN THE AREA OF
4683 MARGARET STREET ON JULY 31, 2013. UPON ARRIVAL, FIRE CREWS FOUND THAT THE ISSUE WAS CAUSED BY A
HYDRO METER CHANGE OUT BEING COMPLETED BY A CORIX CONTRACTOR. WHILE REMOVING THE OLD METER, A
FAILURE OCCURRED THAT CAUSED AN ARC FAULT WHICH ENERGIZED THE METER BASE AND MAST. IN ADDITION
TO THE CONDUCTORS INSIDE THE MAST, THE PHONE AND CABLE LINES APPEARED TO HEAT UP AND SMOKE. BC
HYDRO ATTENDED THE SCENE TO REMOVE SERVICE TO THE BUILDING AND MAKE THE SCENE SAFE, FIRE CREWS
INVESTIGATED THE INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR OF THE BUILDING TO CHECK FOR FIRE EXTENSION AND FOUND NONE.
REPAIRS TO THE ELECTRICAL SERVICE ARE REQUIRED TO BE COMPLETED BY A QUALIFIED 3RD PARTY PRIOR TO REENERGIZING
THE BUILDING. The entire report is here – http://www.stopsmartmetersbc.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/Fire-Comm-Fire-Port-Alberni-2014-04-14.pdf
Here is a Mission fire Sharon blames on smart meters – the fire marshall disagrees. ” A PART FAILURE OF THE ELECTRICAL METER BASE LOWER LEFT LUG. THE METER ITSELF WAS ELEIMINATED AS A
CAUSE OF THIS FIRE.” The entire report is here: http://www.stopsmartmetersbc.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/BCFC-Fire-Mission-2012-06-21.pdf These were the first 3 “fires” that Sharon lists on her website of the “fires” she obtained on a freedom of information request from the BC Office of the fire commissioner. Now do you see why Sharon’s lists are nonsense?
