George Cooper Obituary

Mel Cooper
COOPER, Mel
It is with heartfelt sorrow that we announce the passing of George Neldon Cooper, affectionately known as Mel to his extended family, many friends, and business colleagues. Born in St. John’s, Newfoundland, on December 10, 1932, Mel departed this world on February 20, 2025, in Victoria, BC.

Mel was a man who truly believed in the principle that it is better to give than to receive. His numerous initiatives and contributions to the community stand as a testament to this belief. The many accolades in this pursuit are simply too many to list here. Mel’s legacy of generosity and service will be remembered by all who knew him.

Mel is survived by his devoted wife Carmela, and his beloved children; Dean, Linda (Buchanan), Cindy (Bolton-Smith), Shelley, and Randy, along with his stepson Michael Costigan. Mel was also a proud grandfather of fourteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren, each of whom brought immense joy to his life.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Santa’s Anonymous, one of Mel’s favourite charities, of which he founded, or to your personal charity of choice. A sincere thank you to Selkirk Seniors Village and their staff for the unwavering dedication, kindness, and care given to Mel.

At this time, the family is planning a private ceremony to celebrate Mel’s life, his amazing spirit, and the profound impact that he has made on the lives of so many.
