Buffy Sainte-Marie loses top Canadian music honours including Junos, Polaris and Hall of Fame induction

TORONTO — Buffy Sainte-Marie has lost her Juno awards, Polaris Music Prize honours and her induction into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame as arts organizations respond to a statement from the singer saying she is not Canadian.

The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences says it will revoke her five Juno wins and her 2017 humanitarian award after a review of its eligibility requirements.

Sainte-Marie will also no longer be a part of the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.

  1. The rush to be a “marginalized” person became all the rage. It certainly exposed more than a few to be frauds. Some were cancelled, some were not. Identity politics and using status as being a_________(fill in the blank) usually didn’t end well and puts “identity” BEFORE qualifications. How about we all just work hard and do a good job? Most good employers are looking for just that.

    She’s not even a “Canadian” (or a sq*aw? She’s a “Yank,” born in Massachussets. Deport her and ship her back to the USA !
