TORONTO — The Minister of Canadian Heritage, which oversee the nation’s public broadcasting giant known as the CBC, has appointed the President/CEO of TV 5 Québec as the next head of CBC/Radio-Canada. She will serve a five-year term.

This puts Marie-Phillipe Bouchard in a role she will begin on January 3, and her appointment is a result of “a rigorous, open, transparent and merit-based selection process led by the Independent Advisory Committee for Appointments to the CBC/Radio-Canada Board of Directors convened in March 2024.

Bouchard has led TV5 Québec Canada since February 2016 and for the last four years has also presided over TV5 Numérique, TV5MONDE’s partner in establishing the international French-language platform TV5MONDEPlus. TV5MONDE is one of France’s biggest public media entities.

  1. The CEEB loves to run duplicate services. TV has turned into all talk no video. Radio already does a good job of that. One of them will have to go.

  2. This is a position that should be decided by the Canadian people at election time not appointed. It could be an incentive to get more out to vote when we choose the prime minister. I would have been happy to see someone from British Columbia in the role this time.

  3. The new president is from the French side of the corporation, where the French-speaking population actually listens to and views Radio-Canada. Furthermore, she has a background in public broadcasting. She will be an improvement over Catherine Tait.

  4. Hmm, maybe the population that actually uses the CBC could support it with oh, maybe pledges, membership drives and money, pay as you go like pbs?

  5. CBC beats CTV the national corporate ass kisser network by a mile .. er kilometre! CTV owned by Bell media wont be here in 5 years.
