Longtime Edmonton radio station 630 CHED is getting a new home — on the AM dial, that is.
The station, which has been a news-talk-sports fixture for more than three decades will hop to the 880 slot formerly occupied by Global News 880.
“The station’s bags are packed, and it’s moving up the dial with the Edmonton Oilers, Edmonton Elks, and the same great lineup of radio hosts,” said Andrew Murdoch, manager, Talk & Talent at CHED in a Wednesday statement.

A smart move. The same power of 50k; however, a directional antenna night only at 880 as opposed to a directional antenna night and day at the 630 frequency. Could CKNW be planning a similar move to 730 now that the traffic station has gone?
It’s not the first time the station has moved; it started in 1954 at 1080, and moved to 630 in May 1963.
Much better sound quality at 880.
Sigh, yet another nail in Alberta/Edmonton broadcasting history. A crime what has happened to the former Moffat empire, how long before 630 goes to dead air… bah
