Reports of layoffs impacting Global News surfaced Wednesday, following Corus’s announcement of job cuts earlier this week.

Daily Hive has heard directly from numerous sources close to Corus and Global News that the job cuts have affected the digital web writing teams in BC and right across the country.

  1. CRTC should force the sale of stations effected by “going dark” to private non stock traded buyers. The media is fine, it’s the management/owners that are useless.

  2. Frankly, I would not be surprised if at some point all broadcasters will be closing their land-based radio and television transmitters and resorting to streaming services. This will be the ultimate cost-cutting measure.

  3. When you question who is paying for their agenda to be broadcast, us it any wonder listeners/viewers flee. Kinda cute how the Internet is blamed…

  4. Digital web writing team from Global BC has made cuts. How about one more cut at Global BC? I just heard Troy Charles, reporter on the 6pm cast. He consistently says “thee” instead of “the.” Plus he too often uses “A” as in “able” instead of “a” as in “cat.”
I find it annoying… anyone else?
