Veteran TSN broadcaster Darren “Dutchy” Dutchyshen, long-time host of SportsCentre, has died. He was 57.

“Darren Dutchyshen was a legend of Canadian sports broadcasting, a great teammate, and an essential part of TSN for the last three decades,” said Stewart Johnston, Senior Vice President, Sales & Sports, Bell Media, in a statement to TSN.

“A larger-than-life personality, Darren’s incredible sense of humour and magnetic energy made him a natural broadcaster who connected easily with viewers. His enthusiasm reminded us every day of why we love sports. Most significantly, Darren was a friend to all of us at TSN, and we will miss him dearly. Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with his loved ones.”

Dutchyshen began his TSN career in 1995 and became a mainstay over the next three decades.

He was born in Regina, Sask., and raised in Porcupine Plain, Sask. He cut his teeth in the broadcast industry with early jobs at STV in Saskatoon and IMTV in Dauphin, Man. He went on to work seven years as the host of ITV’s Sports Night in Edmonton (now Global Edmonton).

His TSN career began as weekend host of SportsDesk and CFL Live, before moving over to host the late night edition of SportsCentre.

  1. Is it my imagination or have a lot of high profile broadcasters passed away unexpectedly in the last few years? People in their 50s and 60s that appeared to be in normal health and then died unexpectedly. Broadcasters represent a tiny sliver of the population overall so it seems unusual.

  2. To the previous poster: not sure what you’re insinuating but any basic knowledge of middle aged male deaths point to 3 main causes: cancer, alcohol related, heart disease. While 57 may seem too young for prostate cancer, it is not. It does send another reminder that all men should have their psa tumor markers regularly checked with a simple blood test. Because this sports reporter’s death was even reported is solely because he had a public profile, not because prostate cancer took his life at 57. There are plumbers, painters and priests who at 57, are fighting this silent, dreaded disease.

  3. What I’m insinuating is that the “vaccines” are killing people. Perhaps not this particular person but there are too many excess deaths to ignore. Is that clear enough for you Theresa?
The media 100% pushed the pandemic and the shots and were paid to do so. The media brutally censored legitimate questions surrounding the pandemic and certainly the mandated vaccines. I have run out of patience for the apologists and enablers for what was the biggest crime against humanity in my lifetime.

  4. I’m sure Theresa is well informed and educated so perhaps she could tell us how many people died from the deadly covid19 virus in British Columbia in 2020? The virus that was so deadly that hospitals needed to be shut down for two months because they were going to be overwhelmed? A virus that was so deadly that an emergency hospital was built at the Trade & Convention Centre. A virus so deadly that the World Health Organization stated that approximately 175,000 British Columbians would die from the deadly virus unless we followed their orders. So how many people died in 2020 in BC from the deadliest of the deadly covid19 variants Theresa?

  5. Hello Presstitutes,
Are you stooges going to get the Bird Flu jab, the Cancer jab, and more boosters?

Are the jabs a slow version of MAID?
