Seattle radio station KEXP has finally set a launch date for its first Bay Area broadcast.
After acquiring San Francisco’s 92.7 FM signal for $3.75 million through a bankruptcy auction last year, the nonprofit music station plans to begin programming on the rebranded station, formerly KREV, on Tuesday, March 19.
CEO Ethan Raup had previously said that the station was awaiting FCC approval to transfer the broadcast license to KEXP, allowing them to assume full ownership and operation of the signal. But he told the Chronicle in an exclusive interview last week that getting on the local airwaves was a priority, even though the station already enjoys a substantial global digital presence.
