Wilf Ray
Pioneer Vancouver broadcaster Wilf Ray passed away July 11th at age 94. He started his lengthy radio career at CKMO in 1944. Ray later hosted a Sunday night gospel program from 1965 to 2008, first on CJOR, then on CJJR-FM and later on CKBD, making him one of the longest running broadcasters in Canadian radio. He also served as Director of Corporate Communications for the Jim Pattison Broadcast Group from 1966-80.
Sorry to hear about Wilf’s passing. If ever there was a song to play now to honor him and his legendary career, it should be the song that he used to end each edition of his show on CKBD – the instrumental version of the gospel standard “Gentle Shepherd” (whose recording artist I was never able to find out, but who sounded either like Ronnie Aldrich or Ferrante & Teicher).
