Ron Polillo · Yesterday, a long time friend and coworker of mine Dave Ross (Mike Austin) lost his battle to lung cancer. Dave’s radio career spanned nearly 5 decades most of that here in Prince George. I started working with Dave in 1994 and quickly admired how talented he was! A great voice, a warm personality and a great passion for music and Radio! More importantly, he was a kind and gentle man who cared deeply about people and Prince George! Dave was a great guy who touched many people and I will miss him! This past weekend, “Radio Heaven” gained a bright star?

PRINCE GEORGE — Long-time Prince George radio personality Dave Ross lost his battle with lung cancer over the weekend.
Raised in Prince George, Ross was known on air as Mike Austin, and he first started work as a DJ for CKPG in the 1970s.
Friend and colleague Doug Jones says he’ll always remember his warm, rich, velvety voice and says above all, he was good guy who touched many people.
“He was a good friend. He was a roommate of mine. I had a house, he needed a place to stay so he rented from me for a while and we were good roommates,” he says.

Although i was only at CKPG for what seemed like 15 minutes I remember Dave as a very cool calm laid back relaxed guy off air, which was rare for AM radio back then
Anyone who worked with Dave couldn’t
have asked for a better colleague he was not only a terrific broadcaster but most importantly
a beautiful soul. I for one will miss him, he made the world a better place and for me it doesn’t get much better than that.
Such a loss not only was Dave a wonderful human being but an amazing communicator! I remember him in the control room when he was live telling his great research stories always rubbing his hands together to make the story real. Dave went on later and became an arboretist and his customers loved him . Well done good and faithful servant well done you will be missed
