U of Wash. Football, Basketball Make New Radio Deal, Switch to KJR from KOMO

950 KJR Seattle 1090 The Fan KFNQThe University of Washington through its partnership with Learfield IMG College’s Huskies Sports Properties has announced that iHeartMedia Seattle will become home to all of the University’s football and basketball broadcasts.

Washington football will air on Sports 950 KJR and Variety Hits “96.5 Jack-FM” KJAQ starting this fall. Men’s basketball will air on 950 KJR for the 2020-21 season. Women’s basketball will remain on Hubbard’s 1150 KKNW for next season, while iHeart’s “1090 KJR” KFNQ will air select games before taking over the full slate for the 2021-22 season. Most ancillary programming will also air on 950 KJR.

The Huskies football and men’s basketball will move from their previous home on Sinclair News 1000 KOMO/97.7 KOMO-FM, which have had the radio rights for six years.

The University of Washington Athletics Department and its exclusive multimedia rightsholder, Huskies Sports Properties, announced today a new five-year broadcast agreement with iHeartMedia Seattle’s Sports Radio 950 KJR, Seattle’s Home for March Madness and the Final Four, effective through the 2024-2025 athletic season.

Seattle Sports Radio 950 KJR will serve as the Huskies flagship radio station through the 2024-2025 athletic season. The broadcast agreement will feature comprehensive coverage for all Huskies sports including men’s basketball, women’s basketball and football game broadcasts. Full promotional support will also be provided on Sports Radio 950 KJR’s sister stations including 1090 KJR, 95.7 HD2 KJR FM and 96.5 Jack-FM.

Starting this fall, fans can hear all Husky football broadcasts on Sports Radio 950 KJR, KJR FM-HD2 95.7-2 and Jack-FM 96.5. Husky men’s basketball will broadcast on Sports Radio 950 KJR and KJR FM-HD2 95.7-2. Women’s basketball play-by-play will continue to be heard on 1150 AM KKNW for the 2020-21 season. 1090 KJR will air a select number of women’s basketball games during the 2020-21 season with a full schedule of women’s hoops game broadcasts airing on the station beginning with the 2021-22 season.

Tony Castricone will return this fall for his 3rd season of calling play-by-play for Husky football and his 4th calling men’s basketball. Fans can also hear his original Huskies content on demand on the “GoHuskies Podcast,” which can be found on www.gohuskies.com.

In addition, Seattle Sports Radio 950 KJR and KJR FM-HD2 95.7-2 will broadcast a variety of Huskies sports programming including expanded football pre- and postgame programming, weekly program features with UW coaches and the voice of the Huskies, Tony Castricone and a monthly program highlighting all UW Husky athletic programs.
