L.A. radio history unfolds this week. Iconic morning duo KEVIN RYDER & GENE “BEAN” BAXTER, better known as KEVIN & BEAN, who have ruled the wakeup slot at ENTERCOM Alternative KROQ/LOS ANGELES for an amazing 30 year run, will be no more as of NOVEMBER 7th, which will be BAXTER’s final day on the air.
That announcement came last week following “KEVIN & BEAN’S BREAKFAST WITH GREEN DAY” (10/28), according to the LOS ANGELES DAILY NEWS (11/01), and officially solidifies the date the KEVIN & BEAN show ends which was announced earlier this year (NET NEWS 3/6). BEAN plans to relocate to ENGLAND.
ALL ACCESS has reached out to KROQ and ENTERCOM for additional comment as to what follows in mornings.
BEAN commented, “The last show, I’ll have some feels, there’s no question about that. But honestly, we haven’t scheduled anything. I think we’d like to incorporate some listener phone calls, but I don’t want a surprise and I’m not much into goodbyes either, to tell you the truth. I’m into forward momentum and I’m excited about what the show and station are going to be doing in 2020 and you don’t need to stop and think about me. Just move on to the next thing.”
There is a rich legacy for “THE KEVIN & BEAN SHOW,” which was inducted into the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF BROADCASTERS’ “BROADCASTING HALL OF FAME.”
And this week (11/8) KEVIN & BEAN will be inducted into the RADIO HALL OF FAME in a ceremony in NEW YORK CITY, as will KIIS-FM/LOS ANGELES morning star RYAN SEACREST, famed TV & Radio host/sex therapist DR. RUTH WESTHEIMER and legendary CBS RADIO SPORTS broadcaster JIM ROME.
