Seattle-Tacoma: Movin’ On Up
There was quite a bit of jostling going on among the ranks of the leading stations 6+ this survey. To begin with, HUBBARD Top 40/M KQMV (MOVIN) lived up to its nickname by returning to the top spot after a two-month hiatus (5.9-6.1). BONNEVILLE Talk KIRO-F took two steps forward to #2 without any adjustment to its previous share (5.8-5.8). Two stations moved up and into a tie at #3. iHEARTMEDIA Classic Rock KZOK advanced from #5 (5.4-5.5) while iHEARTMEDIA Classic Hits KJR-F (THE JET) took three steps forward with its highest share in exactly a year (5.1-5.5). The two previous market leaders took a bit of a tumble and landed in fifth place. UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON N/T KUOW fell from #2 with its lowest mark in over a year (6.0-5.4).
ENTERCOM Active Rock KISW dropped from the market lead with its smallest share since the fresh scent of pine needles filled the air (6.2-5.4).
Though KISW saw its 25-54 share take a solid hit, the station managed to capture the demo for the sixth straight survey. KQMV remained #2 with a slight decrease but what had been better than a share and a half gap between the two stations shrank to less than a half share. KZOK was up to #3 with its best performance in over a year while KJR-F was up four slots to #4 as it accomplished the same feat. KIRO-F slipped to #5 despite a slight increase while ENTERCOM Alternative KNDD (THE END) fell to #6 with a flat performance.
There was a lot of share movement in the 18-34 arena. KISW and KQMV remained #1 and #2, respectively, but both stations took hits. As a result, what had been a two-team race suddenly included a third as KZOK zoomed to a close #3 with easily its best book in over a year. The two previous occupants of the #3 position were forced to take a step or two back. iHEARTMEDIA Top 40/R KUBE slid to #4 despite landing its largest share in over a year. HUBBARD AC KRWM (WARM) was flat and landed at #5. The two former #5 stations also stepped down. KNDD slid to #7 with its third down book in a row while ENTERCOM Rhythmic AC KHTP (HOT) landed at #9 with its lowest share in over a year. In between was KJR-F, which moved up three places to #8 as it regained most of last month’s big loss.
For the third straight survey, KISW and KQMV were #1 and #2, respectively, in the 18-49 arena but both suffered share losses. KNDD was flat and stable at #3. KJR-F moved up to #4 and KUBE advanced to #5 as both stations posted their best shares in over a year. KIRO-F slipped to #6 despite a slight increase while KZOK fell to #7 despite landing its largest share in over a year. KHTP fell six places to #10 with its smallest share since OCTOBER.
I am surprised that Canada does not do the same as the United States
