Memorial Held Saturday for ‘Big Daddy’ Dave McCormick

1

More than a hundred family members, close friends and radio colleagues gathered at the Italian Cultural Centre in Vancouver Saturday to celebrate the life of veteran air personality and musicologist “Big Daddy” Dave McCormick who passed away March 29th at age 80.

His radio career began on his 14th birthday at CHML Hamilton ON.  Except for a few years during the 1960s, when he worked in California and at KOL Seattle, McCormick’s on-air work was in Vancouver from 1957 CFUN until his retirement from CISL in 2010.

McCormick was particularly noted for his Discumentary and Countrymentary radio series on Rock 101 (CFMI-FM) and JR FM respectively and received numerous awards during his career.

Our sincere thanks to Gord Lansdell at Northwest Broadcasters for this report.

Red Robinson detailed his relationship with Dave and paid a very fine tribute HERE at Red’s website.

The official family obituary as published April 8th by Pacific Press can be found HERE.

Dave McCormick was a giant of the BC radio industry in the latter half of the 20th century, and should be remembered amongst the top broadcasters of the past, many of whom have already left this mortal coil.
