Voice of UW Huskies Bob Rondeau to Retire after “One More Year”

The 67-year-old began broadcasting Husky football games in 1978, taking over play-by-play duties from Bruce King in 1981. Rondeau has also served as the voice of Washington’s men’s basketball team for the past 31 years and was inducted into the school’s athletics hall of fame last year.

“Bob Rondeau is an icon of Husky Athletics,” UW athletic director Jennifer Cohen said in a statement from the school. “In nearly four decades of outstanding work, he has narrated many of the most memorable Husky sports moments.”

Rondeau came to Seattle after taking over as sports director at KOMO radio in 1977. He will retire as the second-longest tenured football play-by-play radio broadcaster in the Pac-12.
