A tweet from BELL MEDIA Sports CKST-A (TSN RADIO 1040)/VANCOUVER late WEDNESDAY tipped that the NHL’s VANCOUVER CANUCKS are moving from the station after 11 seasons on the station, and the new radio partner of the hockey club is ROGERS SPORTSNET, with a new five-year deal starting next season. Interestingly, the announcement of the new deal did not indicate which ROGERS stations will air the games, with talk in the market pointing to Adult Hits CJAX (96.9 JACK FM) and/or News CKWX-A (NEWS 1130) as the likely home of the CANUCKS next season.
“The CANUCKS are the most sought-after content in the VANCOUVER market, and we are excited to expand our SPORTSNET offering to deliver live CANUCKS coverage on all platforms,” said SPORTSNET President SCOTT MOORE. “VANCOUVER is a top Canadian market filled with loyal and knowledgeable sports fans, and is a natural fit to expand our SPORTSNET offering.”
“SPORTSNET has an amazing success story of building relationships with fans and this new partnership will bring listeners in the Lower Mainland and across BC closer than ever to the CANUCKS,” said CANUCKS SPORTS AND ENTERTAINMENT COO JEFF STIPEC. “We are grateful to have an exceptional relationship with SPORTSNET and this is a perfect step to strengthen our connection to our fans as we continue to develop an exciting team, both on and off the ice.”
“We have incredibly strong radio brands in the VANCOUVER market, and we are excited to build on our premium content with the acquisition of the CANUCKS games,” said ROGERS MEDIA SVP of Radio JULIE ADAM.. “As we’ve seen with our SPORTSNET radio stations in CALGARY and TORONTO, there is a strong appetite for live game coverage and top-tier sports content.”
