The FNC contributor has been on ‘Fox & Friends’ weekend edition since 2013.

Tucker Carlson is heading back to primetime.

Well, almost primetime. The conservative pundit will assume Fox News Channel’s 7 p.m. hour after the upcoming presidential election, filling the vacancy left by Greta Van Susteren.

Carlson, easily recognized by his fondness for bow ties, has not had a nightly cable news showcase since the 2008 demise of his MSNBC vehicle Tucker. He was also on the panel of CNN’s Crossfire when it famously flamed out back in 2005.

The 7 p.m. hour has been filled by Brit Hume since Van Susteren’s exit. Sources confirm that Carlson is expected to assume his new role on Nov. 14.

Van Susteren left FNC abruptly in September. The On the Record anchor, with the network for 14, is the only on-air talent to depart in the wake of former chief Roger Ailes’ exit. Her time slot has not suffered from her absence. October saw Hume average 2.2 million nightly viewers and a strong 407,000 adults 25-54.

Carlson’s move was first reported by the Los Angeles Times.

  1. Rocker I remember hearing Hume was given the show based on him leaving after election day. Not to mention isn’t he the reason for Megyn’s first divorce.
