Channel enjoyed a similar moment in March — before that, you’d have to go back to 9/11
Move over, Fox News and ESPN.
Last week, CNN was the No. 1 cable channel in Monday-Sunday primetime and Monday-Friday prime, in terms of both total viewers and the key 25-54 news demo. This marks just the second time in 14 years the Turner-owned breaking news net can make such a claim.
To be clear: we’re not talking about just cable news — this achievement includes ALL of cable, even sports. Thanks Democratic National Convention!
Monday-Sunday, from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m., CNN averaged 3.31 million total viewers, 1.098 million of those coming from the main demo.
The last time the home to Anderson Cooper and Jake Tapper topped cable was the 2016 week of March 7, when Super Tuesday No. 2, Univision’s Flor. Democratic Debate, CNN’s Flor. GOP Debate, and CNN’s Ohio Democratic Town Hall all piled up.
Before that, CNN’s prior all-encompassing victory came the week of Sep. 17, 2001, following the 9/11 attacks.
Normally Fox News has bested CNN by a wide margin in total viewers. During the week of the Democratic Party Convention, Fox News was the third place TV news network.
