The latest round of Bell Media job cuts has affected notable TV personalities across Canada, including CTV anchors Dan Matheson, Bill Hutchison and Suneel Joshi.
It is unclear how many jobs in total were cut in Tuesday’s layoffs, which focused on the studios in Agincourt, where TSN and CTV News are based.
High-profile presenters who no longer work for the TV stations are:
- Newstalk 1010 anchor Mike Toth said he was let go on Twitter, writing: “Yes…I’m one of victims of Bell Media cuts. But no hard feelings, as I enjoyed my time @newstalk1010 and @MooreintheAM.”
- Toth’s fellow Newstalk anchor David Woodard indicated he was leaving the company on Twitter, writing: “As a result of the recent job cuts, newstalk1010 and I have decided to partake in a #consciousuncoupling.”
- A spokesman for Bell confirmed that reporter Sheri Forde, senior producer Todd Hayes and morning host David Bastl have left the company.
- Quebec-based CJAD reporter Angelica Montgomery tweeted that she had been “caught up in the Bell media lay-offs.”

As a broadcaster who has been laid off several times, I’m never happy seeing people let go. However, guys like Dan Matheson probably have a pretty sweet severance, so he won’t be walking the streets of TO pushing around a shopping cart anytime soon!
For the others, there will probably be lots of new jobs at CBC…
In Ottawa, there’s a movement to reinstate the seemingly beloved, 27-year veteran CTV Ottawa co-anchor Carol Anne Meehan. As of this evening the petition has garnered more than 12,600 signatures. http://ottawacitizen.com/news/local-news/bring-back-meehan-petition-tops-5000-signatures
