Sinclair-owned Seattle ABC affiliate KOMO has unveiled a new set “that captures the heart and soul of the ‘Emerald City.’”

The Devlin Design Group set features Seattle’s skyline, surrounding water and nearby forests in a large RGB LED backlit wall. An LED backlit pattern gives a nod to Seattle’s rainy climate.

“After our input meeting with the management staff at KOMO, we took a stroll down to Victor Steinbrueck Park which has commanding views of Elliot Bay, Pike Place Market and the Seattle skyline,” said Dan Devlin, owner and chief creative strategist of Devlin Design Group. “The sun was shining, the sketchbook was out, and the creative inspiration was instantaneous! The initial concept sketch was completed in less than an hour, this one just poured out like great Seattle coffee!”

The set’s floor graphics were inspired by Native American Northwest tribal art, the organic desk designs are described as a pod of whales. The station also pays tribute to longtime KOMO news photographer Bill Strothman and helicopter pilot Gary Pfitzner with a helicopter blade suspended above main performance area. Strothman and Pfitzner died in a helicopter crash in 2014.

“This set has a lot of sandboxes to play in,” said KOMO news director Pat Costello. “It showcases our talent and content unlike anything in our market. The flexibility that’s built into it is visually endless!”
