Dick Van Patten, the star of TV’s Eight is Enough, has died. He was 86.
“I am sorry to report this sad news,” his rep said in a statement released to media Tuesday. “His family will not be doing any press at this time.” The cause of death is still unknown.
While Van Patten first rose to fame as family dad Tom Bradford on the 1977-81 hit show Eight is Enough, he had been acting since he was a child, first appearing on Broadway at age 7. He went on to appear on Broadway 27 more times.
He also starred in several films, including the Mel Brooks spoof vehicles Space Balls and Robin Hood Men in Tights. The regularly working actor last appeared on the small screen in a guest role on Hot in Cleveland in 2011.
