- A CAPE COD woman is angry at the IRS for allegedly accidentally airing her call about a tax issue — including her personal information — on HOWARD STERN’s SIRIUSXM show.CBS O&O WBZ-TV/BOSTON reports that the woman says she called the IRS for help and the agent was also on another line with STERN’s show at the time, and the agent didn’t realize he was on the air.
“I started to receive phone calls and text messages from all over the country informing me that the information I was discussing with the IRS agent was being aired on the HOWARD STERN show,” the woman told WBZ-TV. She said that she is getting prank calls from STERN fans and is considering getting a lawyer.
The IRS told WBZ-TV in a statement, “We are aware of this troubling situation, and we are currently reviewing the matter. The IRS takes the confidentiality of taxpayer information very seriously, and we have high standards that we expect and require employees to follow.” The woman said that another agent told her the agent she spoke to in the initial call was placed on administrative leave and the case is under investigation.
