WHO’s Conway: “Radio Can Get Things Done
April 27th, 2015
When WHO/Des Moines afternoon drive host Simon Conway met Kerri Kasem (the daughter of the late radio legend Casey Kasem) at Don Anthony’s Talk Show Boot Camp earlier this year, he was so moved by Kerri’s well-documented story about how she and her siblings had been kept from visiting their dying dad at the end of his life that he vowed to join her state-by-state fight to get laws on the books so others won’t suffer as Kerri and her family did.
Fast forward to last Friday (4/24) when Iowa Governor Terry Branstad signed into law the Adult Visitation Bill — making Iowa the first state in the nation to have such a statute.
The bill was passed with an overwhelming bi-partisan vote in both Houses of the State legislature. “Radio can get things done and a 50,000 watt blowtorch like WHO can perhaps get more things done,” said Simon. “Now we’ve helped change the law.
I’m so proud to have played a role in getting this on the books in Iowa.”
That’s Kerri pictured with Simon as they celebrated the victory at WHO’s iHeartMedia/Des Moine studios following the landmark vote.
