Broadcast Dialogue brings to our attention a most remarkable radio career. Dale Smith, the morning news anchor at CFCW Camrose/Edmonton, is –- after 47 and a-half years doing news at the station– retiring Oct. 17.
Smith started with CFCW May 1, 1967, immediately out of radio school. It’s the only radio job he’s ever had…
There are only a handful of broadcasters who can match that record with one set of call letters. Congratulations, Dale, on an achievement that will stand as a landmark of reliability and consistency.
And a very happy retirement replete with days and weeks of sleeping in!
He is one of the best news broadcaster and it has been great to have him broadcast from the City of Camrose.
I grew up listening to him, then had the pleasure of working with him. A remarkable broadcaster and an even better person.
Cheers
Meet Dale in the 70’s as he covered the Mammoth fastball tournament in Mannville and he has been a friend ever since. We haven’t seen each other for years yet I know we could sit down and begin talking as if it was yesterday when we last talked….
